Three days of darkness!

I have a frag tank, 36x24x10.
Have some diatom or dino's in there.
Now the questions is, do I just turn of the lights for three days or/and coverup the whole tank, that there's absolute no light coming in?
This is a full SPS frag tank, will this hurt my corals and after three days do I dim the lights for a bit so in that case the corals can get used to the light again for a few days?

you can try shortening the photoperiod first. i've got about 30 hours without light and been fine with my SPS. kicking up the flow and handling any nitrates should help with diatoms.

Just black the tank out, cover it up. Don't do anything else different. Then turn the lights back on after the 3rd day, and clean out the yucky Skimmer. If you do not have a skimmer, don't do this.

Is the tank new? Is it tied into your main system or separate?

It does have a skimmer, will start this blackout tomorrow.
