Three tangs in a 5’

You make me so jealous! Everyone looks healthy and happy. The aquarium is so clean! There is lots of life and it doesn't look like a barren wasteland, the way my FOWLR looks.

I hope the "Tang Police" leave you alone because it is clear your little slice of the ocean is as well done as possible!
thanks for the kind words. A lot has changed over the last 25 years I’ve been in the hobby (including a 5 year hiatus). Multiple tangs in a tank is completely possible, with fish not just living but thriving. That being said it should be done by experienced hobbyists who have a plan to keep them and a plan to rehome them whenever needed. Stable water chemistry, feeding and quarantine are a must.

I certainly enjoy them all. Look forward to the day when they and most fish we collect become available through the captive bred programs.

Hey guys! build thread is offically up with a stocking list. Please shoot over and give me some advice or even opinions on fish! Love to see yall there and see the progress of this tank.

Just a quick update, yank is up and running now with fish! Decided on just doing a yellow mimic tang with a tomini tang! Also got a baby fox face going on in there. Few wrasses and a damsel along with a yellow candy hog fish for now. I think that’s gonna be my tang gang for now though. I think the only other kind I can house is a yellow/purple/gem tang. Which I already have a lot of yellow. Purples seem to mean and gems well, unless my thrift store gets one in I don’t think I’ll be an owner of one anytime soon.

There are many tangs that you can put into your DT. A Convict tang would be fine, I feel you could do a sailfin or desjardini. I understand the hesitation with a Purple Tang, my 2" Purple Tang thinks he is 6". He is constantly trying to show dominance over my 4" Desjardini who looks at the Purple Tang like "settle down little guy". My Hippo Tang and Powder Blue Tang exit QT tomorrow so we will see how that introduction goes. Then my search becomes locked in on a 3.5" to 5" Blone Naso, then we try our luck with a 2" to 3" Clown Tang as the last member. If there is a remote chance of having success with a Clown Tang it will come with them as the last and smallest Tang in long aquarium. I'm a little shorter than ideal at 72", but I'm feeling good about it.

As predicted, my Purple Tang tried to show dominance over the PBT, which is almost twice his size. The PBT showed him who is boss, so they are playing nicely for the most part. I'm not observing anything concerning, normal stuff with a new member of a Tang Gang. The only fish causing any real trouble is my Asfur Angel, who is the boss of the tank and is acting slightly more aggressively than I would like. No injuries of significant stress. If that occurs, I'll have to introduce the separator or move someone to the QT tank for a bit.

In short, a Tang Gang with a Purple Tang is possible.

I thought you might appreciate a couple videos of the early stages of a Tang Gang.

The PBT and Hippo Tang were added two hours before this was recorded.
