Has anyone done tile or another flooring section just under their tank stand with carpet around it in a living room etc? If so can I see some pictures of how it looks and get any ideas/tips for best flooring option under a tank? I'm doing a tank upgrade and while I have my current one down, between setting up my new one, I want to cut out a piece of my carpet and lay something down that I can carpet around when I'm ready to get new carpet in the future. My girlfriend is having a hard time envisioning this and honestly I would love to see how it looks as well. I've got a picture in my mind but reality doesn't always turn out the same. Lol.

I did exactly that for both tanks in my basement...I just cut the carpet away and installed the tile, using a silver transition piece between the carpet and tile. I don't have any pics with me, but I can post them later today if you need them.

Yes, I would love to see some pictures so if you could do that would be awesome and appreciated! I want to get an idea of how it actually looks and also be able to show my girl that it doesn't look weird. Lol. One issue I have is that it will have to be done fast as I will be taking my current tank down and putting the new one up in the same day. So I'm trying to figure out if I can have a section pre-fab made or what my options would be? That way I can have it ready to put down and set new tank on it right away. I'm ignorant on flooring so not sure if that is even possible. It's going on wood subfloor as this is on my first level as well.

I will post the pics early this afternoon. Depending on the type of tile you put down, you could probably do it all in a day if you rush it. I used 12" X 12" porcelain tiles so it took a day to allow the glue to cure and than another day to let the grout cure but you can speed that all up. It looks very professional (and is a easy job, even if you haven't done floors before) so I don't think you girl will disapprove :-)

Sweet thank you!

Here's mine. Just measured a space a little larger than the footprint of my tank, then picked the tiles and laid things out first - then cut away the carpet and padding. Since it is a basement, I could lay right down on the floor. Nice and level once completed. I didnt put a transition between carpet and the tile, incase I needed to pull up the carpet in case of spills.
