No skimmer? I'd definitely figure out how to get a good skimmer going with your system as your first step before you do anything else. Do you have a sump?

Sumpless. I wanted to go for a relatively low-tech setup, which is why I skimped out on a sump, so all my equipment would either be HOB or internal.

Just got a 1 litre bottle of Nannochloropsis phytoplankton. I'll be starting up a culture soon enough and hopefully, it'll contribute to the fight against algae, which seems to have gotten worse.

It just occurred to me that the algal outbreak may be originating from my source water. I use RO water, without the DI, and it comes out of the unit with a TDS of around 5ppm. Maybe this is causing the algae? I ordered a DI extension that'll be arriving shortly and I hope the 0 TDS water will reduce the algae.

So my plan of attack is: manual removal, Nopox, RODI water and live phytoplankton dosing.
