Hello TC,
In your display tank reborn will not melt down (at least as far as I know, I am not sure of the mechanism that would make it dissolve), any more than coral skeletons making up your normal rockwork will melt down. The media melts down at low pH in a calcium reactor (usually around 6.5-6.6pH), and is stable at your aquarium pH of roughly 8.
The new reborn as far as I can tell is the same size as original TLF reborn. There was a time when it was very small due to the CITES issues (the dark days of reborn), but they seem to either have come through that or found another way because the media is substantial coral chunks again (I just bought 44lbs a few months ago).
I run it in my calcium reactor and I use it as substrate in my 300g reef. It purples up and looks great, and handles the high flow in my reef without issue. Also, pods love the hiding places.
