I have 145gal tank. 60x28x20
I currently have malanarus, leopard, chisel tooth and blue side wrasse. Would it be to much to add a checkerboard wrasse?
The malanarus picks the leopard every now then.

i cant think

The Checkerboard is one I would avoid, the Mel may peck but the Checkerboards kill IME.

Thanks for advice. I have had mal and checkerboard together in the past but both were small. But I have never had as many wrasses I have now.
Any advice on the chisel tooth? He was an impulse buy, I have not seen anything bad but he is a bit skittish. Had him for about 5 months.

I’ve not seen nasty behaviours from that species but they aren’t the most coral safe from what I remember.

I have a 2.5" chiseltooth in my 200 with 18 other wrasses. He doesn't bother anyone but seems to be left alone by my larger Halis, Coris and Thalassoma. One time i saw my A.neoguinacus which is the same size chase him, so that should give you an idea of how low on the heirarchy he is. Beautiful fish though

Avoid checkerboard also when I had mine my melanurus tried really hard to kill it. Checkerboard later killed two fish so…

Haven't kept one before but probably similar to Thalassoma in that they're willing to chase and harass other fish away from their territory or so they can get more food. I'm considering getting one. I think having a large tank with multiple similar/large wrasses is important so no single wrasse can be targeted. I've also found having several large tangs and angels help keep some of my aggressive wrasses in check

Same. I think they're overhated, they can work in tanks but people just hear they're aggressive (which is true, but it's often manageable) and don't bother trying. I just added 2 more to my tank though there have been a few issues.

I would love a lucasanum too. Unfortunately there's only one or two companies who import fish in australia and every time i've asked them to order any kind of wrasse in for me they just ignore me. Very frustrating

I have had them in the past and are one of my favorites. I originally posted the question was due to the chisel tooth and blue side as I have never owned one. I have had checkerboard with malanarus with out issues. With that being said my current malanarus was king of the tank until I added a purple tang and the most aggressive malanarus I have ever owned. I never did add checkerboard. Probably won’t be adding any new fish for some time.

Currently after almost a year all my fish get along fine.
Malanarus
Chisel tooth
Blue side fairy
Leopard

Purple tang
Foxface
Two clowns
Blue spot jaw fish
Bicolor blenny
Fire fish

Only fish I lost was found on top of my net. Was one of the two fire fish I had.

Old video but if you watch you will see the 3 wrasses. Had them for a few years before I took this tank down.
