Hey Forum,

I have a Toadstool Coral who had been THRIVING in my tank for about a year now. For the last week it’s been super sulking. Only thing I changed was I have a wave pump hitting it hard for a week trying to get some mushroom corals to detach from rocks around it, but it didn’t seem to care. When I removed that extra pump, it went into full sulk more about 5 days later and has been so for about a week. Thought it was just being temperamental and shedding, but this is abnormally long.

Everything else is doing great in the tank and even did a fresh water change.

Any thoughts? Photos of the parameters and the sulking toadstool attached.

So the good news is toadstools are quite hearty. Throughout my tank swap all 3 of mine looked terrible, and they bounced back.

My tank thrives more with higher nitrates and phosphates. If it were me, I'd be raising those.

Pics under white lights might also help.

A 0.01ppm phosphate is very low and could also be 0ppm. This can lead to pest algae’s and if it is zero, your slowly starving out everyone in the system.

.1ppm would be a better target especially for hungry softies.

You can run 7 dkh but I’m not sure what value that is. There’s no room for error again, me, I run 8dkh.

If your Alk starts to drop from7dkh, your going to have a ton of unhappy corals.

Pics don’t show much. have you got full tank shots?

One week of leather sulking would not worry me. As long as it doesn't start turning white its fine. I would definitely make some minor adjustments on your parameters though, especially the alk nitrate and phosphate.

Is he on his own rock? It looks like the toadstool and rock fell over.... and he looks "straight" in those pictures, just on its side.... Probably just a weird visual, but doesn't look bent over to me, or I need new glasses :o

Make sure flow is not impeded by algae growth.

My guess is it’s recovering after getting blasted with a powerhead…they need to fill with water to support themselves in strong flow, if you suddenly take that flow away they need to reorganise their internals, that’s a total guess.

I didn’t even think of that! Maybe that’s it.

I don’t. So I’m shocked it’s that high. I’m going to retest, but with everything else in the tank is happy so I wasn’t too worried.
likely it’s just a testing error…less likely could be salinity issue.
