Hi,
I got this long pollop toadstool coral 11 days ago. Since then it has stayed drooped over. It has some pollop extension and since increasing the flow has even more pollops showing but still hasn’t stood up. All other corals seem to be doing well. It’s mid tank and I have a fluval pump and a wavemaker on my 65l tank. It’s not getting blasted directly but it is in the middle of the tank where the two current swirl around
Salinity 1.025
Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10

We are dosing phyto a couple of times a week as we have copepods but no other dosing as my nutrients have bordered on two high at times.
I’m just wondering if this is still ok, or whether I should start worrying? It blown a bit of air under the head and it’s not attached to the rock.

Its not attached to a rock, so its just lying down loosely? I would try to stand it up so the crown is facing up to the light. If you can wedge it between 2 rocks its the easiest way, they don't glue very well. The flesh will meld to the rock in a couple of weeks

Personally I would just give it time to acclimate to your tank, leathers can take a bit longer to acclimate than other corals. Your coral looks fine, there is nothing wrong with it. If you can put it into a higher flow spot it might be happier, I find that toadstools really like good amount of random flow. Good luck

To me it’s just a toadstool being a toadstool. Give it a few more days and it should perk up with no issues

A video posted to youtube and linked here would help.

As stated above they really like more flow than most people give them, and that helps them to "behave"... but yours needs to be attached before you increase its flow.

The good news is they are very hardy. I have one that took me forever to get stuck to a rock ( 6 weeks), and in that time looked like it was dying, sad, droopy, no polyps. Then it turned happy and never looked back.

Sorry I wasn’t clear, the bottom of it is attached to a rock and I’ve glued that piece of rock onto my rockwork.
I just meant the head of it isn’t stuck down onto the rock or anything it’s just been leaning over since I got it. Should I try and use something to prop it up then or just give it more time?
Its pollops have gotten even longer during the day today but still no sign of standing upright.

No need to prop it up, it should stand up on its own, assuming it is getting enough flow.

They like a lot of flow and par around 100. What’s your AlK Cal Mag looking like
Alk is 8.6. I don’t measure Mg or Cal yet. I’ve only recently upped the flow by moving my wave maker so will see if that makes a difference!

Sounds pretty normal for a toadstool, especially that soon after adding it. They can stay drooped for a couple weeks while they adjust, and the fact you’re seeing polyp extension (especially more with flow) is a good sign. The “air” under the cap and not being attached just means it hasn’t settled in yet. I’d give it time, keep moderate flow, and avoid moving it too much—once it gets comfortable and attaches, it should stand back up

Also this happens every now and then. They grow in spurts, closing up and shedding their top layer, that’s why having good erratic flow benefits them. Just don’t make the flow on them one directional to the points it’s hard for them to sand up. If the polyps are swaying that’s perfect

I’m having issues with this toadstool! When I first got it I had it mid tank but although it had some bumps and a few longer fingers it never stood upright or extended further so after 2 weeks I moved it higher up in the tank where there was more direct flow. Pollops still coming out a bit every day but the trunk just looks ready weak to me? One side of it where the wavemaker was closest to wasn’t showing as many pollops as shown in the picture so after another 2 weeks I’ve now moved the wavemaker a little bit across so it’s not so strong flow wise. Any other advice? I do have a very short white light window at the minute of 4 hours due to controlling algae however my blues are 100% for 8 hours. All other corals doing well. My neon green long pollop opened within 48 hours of adding.

These things are really hardy.... I agree he doesn't look happy, but they can also take quite a while to acclimate to a new home.

Medium light, medium+ flow, and just keep an eye on it. My smaller one took over a month to look and act right.

Ok thanks, it definitely is quite a small one so maybe just time!

The polyps are not moving at all, I would consider that low flow. Ideally, the polyps should flow gently from side to side back and forth
