Toadstool just grumpy, or is it something else?

My toadstool leather was looking great until a month ago. I've read so many threads about them just being "grumpy" but this is the most I've seen of it in a MONTH. I'm battling some algae and new tank issues, but nothing is completely out of whack parameter-wise. Any idea how to coax it back out? Should I pull the frag and do a peroxide dip to get that algae off, could that be irritating it?

That is precisely how mine looked for its first few months in my tank.

Given time, it turned out very well, completely open and colorful. I truly think they're just very temperamental. Give it time, and you will see it thrive.

Check for vermatid snails--they can irritate a coral, especially leathers. Removing them proved success for me as well.

Remove any algae, vermatids, or other pests you see. Then just wait. Leather corals, especially toadstools, are sensitive to physical disruption, but are near impossible to actually kill.

It seems there is a lot of GHA in the background. Try removing that. They could be stealing nutrients and irritating your coral. However, if you got the leather like that, then it may just need a little love and good water, and will eventually recover.

What type of flow and type of light. Moderate or moderate heavy 125 par and it should do well.

One suggestion I have is every water change give it a new spot. When it opens up, you’ll know it’s in the right spot. It’s all about experimentation.

It has moderate flow, enough to blow the polyps around a bit when they were out. I haven't tested par yet. I guess I thought that since it had been so happy for weeks before this that it was getting sufficient lighting.

They close up to shed when they are just about ready to shed you will see some shine to them. When they shed you will see pieces coming off them. It could be going through that process.
