Had this guy for a few weeks, it was loving my tank until this past Sunday and now it hasn't opened up since then. LFS guy said to pull it out and dip it, then I noticed this on the back:

Anyone have any ideas?

To me it just looks like it grabbed on to some substrate at some point and it became embedded. Mine looks like that too on one side.

It might just be shedding. If so, no big deal.

I agree that it just looks like substrate. And leathers seem to be very temperamental. Mine has closed up for over a month before, then randomly opened back up. Sometimes mine will shed multiple times in a row.

Ok! I'm just hoping it's being annoying. What is it shedding exactly?

It's sheding outer layer like a foxface or a lionfish. Basically it a mucas layer. It helps to protect the leather. Once it sheds they tend to open up and are larger.

Lo and behold it opened back up today! Thanks again for alleviating my fears guys.

Way to stay the course. Haray. Pic please.

That's a very nice piece. No wonder you were so concerned
