i believe you mean zoas or palys. They typically extend when they are reaching for light.

They do not like to be bothered. I had to move the one we have several times to find the correct spot in the tank. It's half way up a 30" high tank with direct light and low to medium water flow.

Hmm.. Sometimes these things can be finicky. I would definitely post some photos and specs of your tank to the main forum to get thousands of more opinions and ideas! :)
