Tomini tang in 50 gallon

fish is doing great and coloration looks good. took him a few days to come out of his cave but now he is very active and picking on the rocks constantly. if i walk up to the tank he will hide so i just sit in my chair and watch him from a distance lol. such a beautiful fish, prob my new favorite.
Hello there. How is the Tomini Tang doing, my friend? Thanks in advance!

i still think its funny when ppl argue about fish in smaller tanks . i see guys with big tanks that are so full of rock that its it doesnt give the fish anymore swimming area then some smaller tanks i have seen . but i do agree to a point there are fish you shouldn't keep in smaller tanks .
And that was my last tank. A 90G with 145# of rock. The belief back then held that one needed about 2lb/Gallon. Now it's one or less. And I had a happy yellow tang.

I’m curious to hear how things turned out with your Tomini. I’m considering getting one as well.

It’s been about 2 years and he’s still small and doing great. Definitely one of my favorite fish.

I ended up getting a Tomini for my 50 gallon AIO. He’s been in there six weeks now and is doing great. Definitely a cool fish. He’s about 3 inches from tip to tail, and still looks small in the tank. He was pretty shy at first, quick to hide in the rocks whenever I moved around the room. But he’s gotten more bold recently and is now mostly out and about, constantly picking at the rocks and glass. Super fun to watch.

This thread was helpful for me, as well Jay Hemdal’s formula for calculating appropriate tank size for various fish.

Does yours eat nori? Mine won’t. He joins the feeding frenzy with the other fish for mysis, flakes, etc., and seems to get plenty of algae grazing on the rocks and glass.

Try adding nori to a flat rock with rubber bands. My lemon peel angelfish didn't touch nori until I did that a few times and now he eats it from the clip. I think he asks for it. He looks at the clip and looks out of the aquarium.
