I bought a toodstool a week ago and it still has not opened . It was open at my lfs. I have moved it to lesser lighting condition under a ledge but still has not opened. Will it just take some time for it to acclimate to the tank?

I can take some time but should open quickly under good conditions. Was it open at the lfs?

Mine can be balled up for a week... they go through a shedding of sorts... often after a stressful event such as moving to a new tank, but they also do it regularly depending on how fast it's growing... this depends on your water conditions.... they need trace elements such as calcuim, magnesium and Iodine for thier structure and growth, if you have a light bio load, regular water changes with good quality salt mix should suffice dosing these is difficult and only needed with higher bioload and should be done carefully. For now....I would leave it alone... it should come around.

Mine closed up and died when I started running GFO. But it was on and off all the time.

My toadstool goes thru phases. Some days it looks like its at deaths door for several hours. Then the next time you walk up to the tank it looks like the pictures on Live Aquaria.

Mine was open at the lfs. My water parameters are all good. I will just wait and see if this little guy will come out.

Well don't feel bad if it doesn't. I have srooms, zoa, candies, flowerpots, and more. But.. I kill toad stools. So, maybe some.....day I will try another one. Thing is they bomb the tank when they die, and you have to get them out, but they also shed and play possum making it hard to know when they are really dead. For me if I turkey blast (baster) them to rinse them off and they fall apart.. ummm .. they're Dead at the Scene. Then it is suck them out of the tank ASAP. I've been there done that and don't want the stupid Tee shirt.

When they are dead they stop smelling like a mushroom and smell really foul.
