Hey R2R,

Kinda stumped and trying to figure out why this torch died. It was in the process of splitting, i saw the mouth starting to divide. Can this cause it enough stress to go downhill seemingly overnight? Did not notice any issues with it until I saw the detached flesh in the pic below.

All the other torches near it are doing good as far as I can tell, see video below.

Tested parameters and everything is in line since the tank got stood up 6 months ago:

salinity: 1.025
alk 9
nirate: 7ppm
PO: 0.05ppm

Here is a video of it from 3/20/2025:

Here is how I found it 3/23/2025 in the morning:

Complete skeleton today :(

Any insight would be appreciated thank you!

How long have you had it? The flesh band seems to have been gone for a while. I don’t believe this torch was splitting. Corals will open their mouths and release zooxanthellae when stressed and that’s probably what you were seeing.

Had all of these torches since 10/31. Jester and dragon soul both split since then

Last time I checked was 3/15 and mag was 1470, calc was 470. I usually don't test these often (1-2 months) unless my alk is off significantly since I dose AFR and 10% bi-weekly WC.

I can def test it today and see if it dipped but doubt it

thats good levels. I just didnt see them above. Do you feed ur torches? Beautiful fish btw, but watching that video the flow seems a little low. Sometimes when feeding torches if its too much food and it sits on them. I heard it can make them rot from the inside. Just throwing out some ideas. Ur parameters seem great though.

Thanks and I appericate it! and no feeding, at least on purpose. I feed pretty heavy with the anthias.

That flow is with the pumps off I believe I can take another one with it on. I have 2 gyre 350s at 60% doing pulse mode.

Just confused, nothing else affected lol SPS are open and happy. Same with the other LPS. I got 2 BTAs as well that aren't affected.

Yeah I’m not sure man. I’ve had one die on me for no reason. I ended up doing a dip on all mine just in case it was a bacteria infection.

I have 8 anthias I feed pretty heavy as well.

Awesome looking torches! Yeah I'm just going to blame the purple tang :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:.

I doubt its any type of worm since theres 5 wrasse in there but you never know. Im gunna look at night with a red light and see if I can spot anything weird on the flesh bands.
