The purple torch was pretty much the same size as the larger. Both torches close at night, but takes longer to open than the green. Was initially a similar size, but is becoming more and more reclusive.

Had the purple about a month. Blanket feeding twice a week with reef roids mixed into 10ml of photo-mix. Everything else in the tank appears to be thriving. Any suggestions or tonic suggestions welcome.

Doesn't look bad at all to me, I might try relocating it and seeing if it does better elsewhere.

What kind of lighting?
I have a Fluval led Reef 4.0 22 watt. Oddly enough the lights had changed settings and I don’t know when. Across all the colours had all dropped down to 19%. I discovered this yesterday. I can’t remember what I had progressed each colour to. I have turned the blue up to 70 %. Wish I could find some guidance on the light settings. I was thinking that moving the coral may help like you have suggested, but I may move the wavmaker first?

Just the lighting changes might be it too.

I just like to give them more room, mine tend to grow, and I had them a little closer like that and they ran out of room. I'd probably move him to the top of that rock that he's kind of behind.

He also doesn't seem to have much of a flesh band. This can also be flow or light related.

You can take a video, post on youtube, and link it here, and people would have more info to assess.

Thanks Bryan, that does make sense. It had a large flesh band for a couple of weeks after I acquired it. Now I know what that is called so thanks. I will take a video tomorrow at some point. The moonlight setting is currently on, so most of the coral shrinks during this light phase.

Could be the leather coral bothering it (chemical warfare or allelopathy), just a guess. Maybe move it away from the leather and see how it does. Are running carbon ?

This is what it looked like 3 weeks ago ago.

This... me, not an expert, looks like a lot of flow... to me. I've seen others in this much, and they seem to do fine, but that just looks like 25% too much. Mine are definitely in less flow and do quite well.

Thank you, I think it is worth re-locating the purple torch. The willow did molt this week too

Thanks for your thoughts Bryan. The green Torch is in much more flow and is thriving. I guess all torches are not the same.

So, I have adjusted the rock so the torch is further away from the Japanese Willow. I have also moved the wave maker lower to the sand bed, now the purple torch is getting a more gentle flow and in a different direction. Took a while for it to wake up today. As the flow is in a different direction I have noticed a strange blob on its stem. Is this anything to be concerned about? Or could it be the reason for the downturn in extension?
