Torch not extending!! Help!?

I have a cotton cand torch that all of a sudden today is not extending! It's never don't this before and my joker torch seems fine. I'm sure what could have happened and what to do about it. I noticed this white thing on it. It kind of looks like a worm but maybe it isn't. I feel like it's been there since we got it and we dip our corals before entering the tank. We have had this torch for a while now. Can anyone help?

The torch doesn’t look like it’s in bad shape at all. My torch’s including a cotton candy usually close up a bit at night and in the mornings before lights on.

Mine usually do too and my joker has already this morning, but the lights have been on for 3 hours now and this little guy still has opened up. It seemed like it was thriving but I'm just worried. Lol

Low nutrients , phosphate bottoming out = starvation.

Id recommend targeting .1-.2 for safety

A lot of things can cause a torch to close up for a bit. Something in the water may have irritated it, a shrimp pecking around, growing skeletal structure, etc... your numbers are decent except low phosphate. You want low moderate flow and 150 to 250 par.

How long has ur phosphate been teetering on zero for?

Okay thank you! I might be just overly worried. Lol I'm going to add some phosphate to the tank and see what happens.

This is true but I'd be more concerned about nitrates causing this then low phosphate but you are correct corals decline from the inside first over weeks or months from starvation and then one day show outward signs of decline.

OP dose some reef roids into the tank and your phosphate will rise.

I agree with bumping up phosphate to .05-.1. Mine close up before and during a split and when pooping.
