For a beginner you've taken a wise path. Patient research is always a plus, and you will find much wisdom here.

As a generalization, there are no "silly" question, seeking knowledge is a always positive. That said there are threads similar and including, " Can you use milk to add calcium to your aquarium?." Yes, humor does meet science at R2R.

Welcome! No question is a stupid question. We all start somewhere. Remember to use the search feature. There is alot of knowledge locked up in posts long before some of the current reefers. Just remember this is a game of pace. Small Decisions take weeks to see results but bad decisions take days or hours to see a dying fish or coral! If in doubt Just ask. People here are some of the brightest and best I've seen.
