I've been stuck in my house since Friday when I left work with some back pain (sciatica). Spent the whole weekend at home and during this time there was police activity next door. Just found out that it was a homicide, my neighbor was found stabbed to death. I'm sitting in my kitchen this morning watching all the news channels setting up cameras across the street from my house.
I never really knew the man next door, he was a loner that kept to himself and I only occasionally saw him outside the house. The only time I interacted with him is last year after a snow storm I saw him shoveling so I plowed his driveway and sidewalk and that's when he introduced himself as Bill. It looks like it wasn't a random act and he was targeted.

Unfortunately, it is most likely somebody he knew. Somebody looking for pain pills is usually the case. Very sad indeed. Prayers for his family and neighbors.

I’m going out on a limb here but here’s my theory. Every Saturday night I’d see him leave in a yellow cab dressed nice but casual. I figured he was going to some club or bar. Maybe he became chummy with somebody in one of these places and word got around about his situation of a loner and made him an easy target.
I personally never saw him getting any visits from friends or family. I was told he didn’t have any family besides a brother that rarely visited him.

Wow. do you have cameras on the exterior of your home?

I do. The detectives asked if they could take a look at the footage, unfortunately they weren't recording. I use the cameras live feed to keep an eye on the house and tank while I'm at work and never bother with recording, the one time I set it up it was very quirky and not reliable and never bothered again ( think I need to change that now). I don't think a recording would have been any help anyway. The cameras don't get any footage from the house next door at all, just tight perimeter footage of my house.

That stinks. I've been toying with the idea of having cameras around my house .

That's sad. Sometimes bad things happen where you don't expect it.

I live in what was once a rough town for rural standards back in the 80's, but we now have the drug train coming up from the cities, lots of heroin and pill addictions around here.

Our quiet road got targeted for smash and grab in vehicles a few weeks ago. 7 vehicles got windows smashed, my wife's included. Nothing taken, he rummaged around in a bag of clothes we were donating to the needy. The really scary thing was he did this between 6:45 and 7:45 in the morning. I usually start my van at 6:40 and leave by 6:45. There was snow on my wife's car so I know the window wasn't smashed then. Also the cop shop is literally across a field from my house. They knew who it was, 25 yr old, just out of jail and they caught him that afternoon. He actually lives about a mile up the road with his parents, well that's when he's not in jail. I've heard he is known to do this when he gets out of jail every so often, rumor has it he also steals from houses. So....I draw my shades now when I'm not home.
