Any tips to transition from 50ml day A4R to kalkwasser. Should I do it gradually? I have 91 total water volume. Jim

I would do it slowly, reduce the a4f slightly then add kalk, this way any mistakes will be minimal and will give you a better chance of getting the kalk dialled in correctly.

That is my current plan maybe cut 5 ml of A4R a day and add 260 ml of kalk.

That about matches my memory, AFR being 53x as potent as kalk on an alkalinity basis. I dose both. Kalk at night and AFR after the lights come on.

Why the switch? Just curious.

I have low pH. Want to see if I can raise it like others are doing with kalkwasser. How much of each do you dose? By dosing both how is your alk and pH.

I have always used Kalk at night to help with pH. Recently I have achieved elevated and stable with outdoor air aeration doing the majority of the work. There is a thread here if you want to check it out.

I added AFR when I needed more alkalinity and didn’t want to dose higher rates of Kalk. I get about half my alkalinity from Kalk, the other half from AFR. My alkalinity is very stable around 9 dKH.

They both add alkalinity and calcium in the same proportions, so I find it’s pretty easy to use both if you want to. I like the trace elements in AFR. If I didn’t used AFR I’d have to use two dosing heads for K and A trace elements from tropic Marin to achieve the same.
