Translucent Frogspawn

Hi everyone,

I’m new to saltwater tanks and have a 20 gallon AIO, i recently just picked up my first Frogspawn and I’ve had it for about 2 weeks now and it’s been like this almost the whole time but it doesn’t look like any frogspawn I’ve seen, do yall know what’s wrong with it? It’s slightly translucent and all puffed up, also from the frogspawn I’ve seen I’ve never seen one look like a sunflower like this one. Any advice is appreciated, Thank you!!

(I thought I was shocking it with the light so I put it in the back corner with slight flow going over it)

That does seem strangely translucent, but looks heathy to me otherwise.

I’ve seen this with frogspawn and even hammers to an extent when put in a new tank. It’s especially noticeable in the orange/tan ones in my experience. It should darken soon enough. Looks fine overall. I wouldn’t worry for now.

Mine did this for a bit too when first added, but is perfectly happy now. It was a green one so less dramatic than yours.

How much PAR is it getting? Looks like it’s using up to zoox to survive and losing color.

I haven’t seen it on a LPs but imagine that the coral has expelled its zooxanthelea, and may be stressed. Try putting it in a low light area with medium flow for a week and see how it does.

What kind of light do you have on your tank? Unless your light is much more powerful than where you bought it from, then I don't see the reason to stick it into a low light spot. Actually I see a lot of shading on the sand so it tells me your lights are not that strong.

My frogspawn was on the sand directly under metal halides, and it grew from one single polyp to a basketball size colony in 4 years and I had to sell it as it was getting too big. I find new hobbyists often errs on the side of not enough light
