Trident - Hands on

I haven't posted about my Trident for quite a while. It's still chugging along nicely and helping to keep my tank stable. Here are my targets for Trident Controlled Dosing:

Alk: 8.20 dKH
Cal: 420 ppm
Mag: 1350 ppm

And here's my current Trident report:

Screen Shot 2020-02-15 at 9.27.15 PM.png

The graphs represent the past 7 days, and while they look like there's a lot of up and down swings, what's not apparent is the narrow range of the Y axis. Here are the actual ranges over 7 days:

Alk: 8.13 - 8.35 dKH
Cal: 402 - 427 ppm
Mag: 1345 - 1359 ppm

That's pretty darn stable!

What is your testing schedule?

Regarding graphs - yeah, at a glance they look bad and one would think hey - I thought it was supposed to smooth out the swings. Then you go to 1 day view and see the Axis...probably my only complaint :)

I'm running 8/4 tests per day. Yes, I'm burning through the reagent at 2x the normal rate, but I prefer to have more granular test results.

Hmm? So should I, or need to go through the task setup via apex for controlled dosing. Sorry, im just a bit confused still. I was also playing around with the task, using Bionic 2 part, the section where it ask volume additive, do I leave it at 1ml to start ?

@SuncrestReef How is everything going with your Trident. Still happy with the purchase?
Everything is temporarily shut down at the moment as I’m rebuilding my tank with a new sump. See:

But yes, I’m still super happy with the Trident.

Just read the first few lines and that is where I am at with my tank right now...

Considering a Trident since KHG bricked my device for using my own reagent  and I'm not paying to have it unbricked.

That said, the lack of monitoring, my MBA, and focus on the kiddos has definitely taken its toll. Now that the MBA is over I'm hoping to rebuild!

I'll enjoy reading your new thread.. hopefully it'll give me some hope!

I reduced the amount dosed at night, increased the amount during the day, and shifted the schedule to later in the day. My lights reach maximum intensity at 9am, but I moved the increased dosing schedule to start at 10am based on what Trident was showing in the graphs.

From this base schedule, the Trident then micro-adjusts the amount and frequency throughout the day based on its measured readings. Here's the actual amount dosed from the logs:

Hello SuncrestReef. Once again greeting and thanking him for the help to the community and congratulating him on his beautiful tank. I am a bit confused with the adjustment of the dosage controlled by Trident, I have had it like this for a long time but I have never really managed to keep the range as close as possible in 24 hours and I would like if you could help me please. Here I send you a picture so you can see what I mean, I have always had it in 3 Intervals and I have even thought of changing it to a single interval of 24 Hours but I have never done it, about 3 days ago I changed to 12 tests per day and see if that works, but it's really the same. And I can't or maybe I don't know how to adjust it in the Lights schedule because my Lights Schedule is from 11am to 10pm, and I wanted to put that schedule in the Center Interval, but then there would be only 2 hours left until 00: 00 and I don't know if it would be a problem. Would you give me any recommendation? Thanks

Neptune recommends a smaller Range value, otherwise the Trident will have a difficult time keeping up. The smaller this value, the more closely the Trident can maintain the range. These values are from Neptune's guide for Trident Controlled Dosing:

Thanks for answering. I'm a little confused with this or maybe I don't know how to explain myself well, my Light Hours are from 11 am to 10 pm and I want to know where I should increase or decrease the dose of Alk and Ca, because my goal is 8.5 Alk and in the test that does from 8pm to 6am are always below 8dkh, at other times it is within the range, and having it in a range of 0.4, then it returns to the normal dosage, that's why I set it to 1 in the range, thinking that it would take me to the closest dose to achieve 8.5. That's why I wanted to know from your experience if you could help me please?

And maybe it has happened to you or maybe not, but I normally always buy the Reagents for 6 months, and in each box I always do the calibration with the bottle that comes in the box and exactly as the instructions say, and still I have had problems with some batches and the Alk Reagents that have given me a value very different from the previous ones, and then many times I have solved it by doing the test with another of the Reagents A that have been left over and it is more similar to the previous Alkalinity values . As if sometimes there were some bad lot. I'm just assuming of course, The Trident does a great job and I don't want to criticize anyone.
