That is very interesting. Did you consider manual dosing a bit to offset that?

Yes, once I discovered how GFO lowers alkalinity, I manually dosed to bring it back in line with earlier readings.

It's pretty cool to see how the Trident is constantly adjusting the DOS to maintain stability. Here's the past 24 hours on my 2-part dosing. It makes significant changes between lights off and lights on:

Today my Trident warned me that Reagent A is empty:

Here's the process to replace the reagent. Start by going into Tasks in Fusion:

I'm still working to smooth out my daily alk swings. While the Trident does make small adjustments to the DOS to try to keep readings stable, it's still up to you to set the base dosing schedule. I'm currently dosing more during the day and less at night, but I need to tweak the timing a bit more.

One thing that's really interesting is how the frequent testing really reveals the extent of daily swings due to consumption. In the past I always tested alk each morning at 9am. If you only look at the Trident's daily 9am readings, it looks like things are pretty stable. But when you factor in the additional daily tests, you see how much fluctuation actually exists:

As the old saying goes...Ignorance is bliss. ;)

Here you can see how the lighting schedule lines up with the drop in alk throughout the day:

I think I'm going to shift my dosing schedule a bit.

Still a quite minor drop though - the y axis scale makes it look more dramatic than it actually is.

If you’re using the Balling method and dosing in three parts, i guess you would just set up ALK and CA and then just dose the 3rd component outside of Trident?

It looks like the changes I made to my dosing schedule yesterday are paying off:

Did you make changes to the time at which the DOS add's alk while leaving the Trident in control of how much? Or, are you controlling times and amounts?

I reduced the amount dosed at night, increased the amount during the day, and shifted the schedule to later in the day. My lights reach maximum intensity at 9am, but I moved the increased dosing schedule to start at 10am based on what Trident was showing in the graphs.

From this base schedule, the Trident then micro-adjusts the amount and frequency throughout the day based on its measured readings. Here's the actual amount dosed from the logs:

Over the past few days I've been fine tuning my 2-part dosing schedule based on the readings from my Trident, and now for the past 24 hours the readings have remained within +/- 0.05 dKH of my target, so I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm just amazed at how useful the Trident is!!!

Neptune just released AOS 5.05_6B19 which contains some enhancements for the Trident tile on your dashboard. It now shows more descriptive messages about what it's doing:

Screen Shot 2019-06-10 at 1.49.57 PM.png Screen Shot 2019-06-10 at 3.08.18 PM.png Screen Shot 2019-06-10 at 6.09.16 PM.png

For full details, see the AOS release notes: https://forum.neptunesystems.com/showthread.php?27028-AOS-5-05_6B19-is-now-available!

Great review!
How are the measurements for Ca and Mg?
And do you still see the 0.5 dKH difference between the Salifert manual testing and the Trident results?

Great thread. It really is interesting to see how people are starting to use the Trident and the data that is being collected. There is a lot of angst with regards to the product but reading this, or if they haven't, it sure does show the value add...
