I have a blue Cespitularia frag that exploded in growth and threw a growth foot down that was flopping around. I snipped it off decided to replant in a bare area of my tank hearing chances of survival were slim. Now that frag has 5xed in size over a month and the original mother threw down three more large feet that rooted into the rock. They started really encroaching on my purple green monticap which is one of my favorite corals in the tank, so I lopped them off at the skinniest part and used the cutters to slowly pry both feet out of the rockwork. Alot of cloudy stuff came out and the coral got super ticked off obviously. And as time goes on, seems to be getting more retracted and the base is swelling. I am running fresh carbon now but,
1. Did I just kill this thing and if not is there any risk to the main coral to continue to cut it back like this as it continues to try and spread? I dont remember it retracting this much the first time I fragged it.
2. Do you think the microbits of it left in the rock will re grow, if so how can I stomp it out?
Side note, anyone got any idea what kind of hair algae I have. Its not bryopsis, its as fine as the hair on your head and only gets 1/4 inch ish long, no more. Grows in tufts.
