When I see videos on Youtube, they all shows how to frag corals. But as a newbie, I can't understand how people that already permanently glued or epoxied their coral since they were a frag is able to get them out from their crowded tank easily to frag them and glue them back on to the rock.

What do you guys do? I am sure you just don't sit coral on rock structures and hoping they don't fall. I am sure most of them are glued or epoxied to rock. How do you get them out easily so you can frag or maintain their growth so they don't grow out of proportion?

Following along, I’m getting more into the SPS game and I’m getting some good growth going already. I know it’s only a matter of time before I’m going to be pruning. Great question!

I use Tunze coral gum and coral glue for most of our corals LPS and SPS... when I want to move or remove something I normally find that I can gently left to right move the piece off of whatever I have it attached too.

I have seen folks clip pieces off in the tank. Though that seems a little dangerous to me, my mind always wanders to “what happens if it falls into another colony”.

My 120 is 1 year old.
I have had to trim/frag a few to keep them growing in the right direction.
Several have grown to softball size in less than a year.
You need a pair of bone cutters.
Just cut and remove in the tank.
You do not need to remove as I could not anyway as they have encrusted the rock they are glued to.

If it falls just pick it up.
Its only an issue if it sits their for some time.
I have some sps growing into each other and their is not much you can do.
Their is only so much space in your tank.

I figured... I've just read stories of colonies stinging each other. I know it's bound to happen it's just an unknown fear I've had in my mind since adding SPS to the tank. Looking forward to the new challenges ;)

I think you are referring to SPS.

How about for softies and LPS?

I dont do softies so no experience.
My frogspawn is attatched to a mobile rock on the bottom so easy to take out if needed.
I have a chalice the size of a coffee plate with long sweepers.
If needed I can just break off or cut with bone cutters.
95% of my tank is sps though.
Corals with sweepers are on the bottom.
