Red banded trochus are very hardy for me. All mine I bought from the LFS in the wholesale shipping bag before they tanked them. I only temp acclimated them, tooth brushed their shells, tossed them in and immediately they started cruising around. I now have probably a hundred trochus snails at all different sizes as they are very hardy for me and breed readily in my tank.
It sounds like another issue from my perspective. Was it moving about at the fish store?

I didn’t see it at the fish store, I was on the left side of the tank and the employee got it from the right side

I'm not claiming to be an expert but I've had similar experiences to @Gumbies R Us . My Trochus usually take off as soon as I put them in the tank. That said, at the end of Spring I purchased 15 or so Trochus from Reef Cleaners. When I added them to the tank, 4 or 5 of them refused to move. It took 2 or 3 days and then they started moving.

I think what the previous poster was stating about the Turbo snail "falling" or flipping over can be caused by hunger/starving.

As far as Trochus flipping over, if they can't right themselves it's usually not a good sign as Trochus are known to be one of the snails that can flip back over.

Oh my turbo snail was not starving. He ate all the time. I loved to watch him do so. I have no idea how long the trochus was on its side, maybe minutes maybe hours. I am home soon to do a sniff test and see if he’s moved.

Update: no movement. No smell. Moved him to an algae covered rock instead of sand.

Try holding him against the glass? My Trochus will almost always grab the glass.

I did, and he did nothing. He’s still inside the shell completely. I asked the store who sold it to me, they said give it one more day and they’ll replace him for me.
I am out of town tomorrow so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow night to decide on if he’s alive or not.

The good news is if he's dead you'll know when you smell him.

Do you run a coldish tank?

Calcium won't affect snails immediately, but temperature and pH changes can.

That's interesting. Snails are some of the NASTIEST smelling critters when they die.

Maybe they did not travel well to your LFS or already half starved/dead. Happens to me sometimes. Always ask for the ones actively crawling up the glass.

That is a good idea. If I need to have him replaced I’ll be sure to pick one out myself
