So ive build my own roller filter system for my tank i didn't have the room for a retail model so i built my own. It been running for 5 weeks pretty smoothly till i had a cerith snail that seems to have a fond love for the over flow box ive cought this snail 3 times now in the filter sock or the roller filter. He wedge his shell it the bottom roller broke the filter. So i have the filter out for repairs and changing some things. The filter works ok it doesn't catch everything detritus seems to collect in the first section of the sump. Ive been thinking of a way to try and funnel the detritus to one spot. My plan is to build an acrylic box with a funnel at the bottom then im thinking of installing a suction tube attached to a maxjet 1200. From their im planning on using the MJ for pumping out water for a daily water change 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon. Total volume of display and sump only 50 to 55 gallons.

Any one have any ideas or comments is it Fool's errand to try this or is the flow going to be to much im running 750gph or so thought the filter.

You sir have skills.. Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for your kind words. I'm kinda flying blind on this whole thing. I was surprised at how well the roller filter had preformed. Im hoping i can collect majority of the detritus. Only fear is the flow might just carry the detritus into the first section of the sump again. Only way i know how is to try it and see.
