TUNZE Osmolator 3 FIRE

I used there older model for years without a problem too. I thought the new one would be an upgrade. Smh

New in this hobby is almost never an upgrade, ha ha!

Old radions vs new

Old Vortechs vs new

Old Apex EB8 vs EB32

:thinking-face:

At least Tunze has a 5 year warranty, hopefully they resolve the issue.

So was there an actual fire or just smoke from some burned plastic from some low voltage mishap?

Have a thermostat in your house? Same low voltage setup and the risk of fire is so low it’s a non starter.
Smoking only. I do understand how low voltage works and how low the risks are. But I opened my tank today and it was smoking. That's NEVER supposed to happen. I'm leaving today for a week long vacation and I can only imagine how bad it could of got if left unoticed.

Things that are NEVER supposed to happen, happen all the time. Nothing would have happened if this happened while you were gone.

Roger spoke about it in the thread I posted.

Yes, it’s unfortunate and sucks. No, it’s not a national crime that deserves media attention

Did you buy yours right when it came out?

Seems like maybe they fixed it. I will keep my 3155 until it DIES... hopefully I can get another 10 years out of it.

Rest assured OP in 20 years of reefing I’ve never heard of a Tunze anything start on fire. Tunze has a US rep that will make it right.

I am very sorry this happened to you.

Just ordered the same ATO unit last week.

Your concerns are definitely understandable. I have had more Tunze products than I can count. Thus far their representative has been fantastic.

When did you purchase this ATO?

TIA

I understand you defending there product. But I'm sorry it does deserve attention in this community. There is a problem with this peice of equipment alot of people are using that causes Burning to the point of smoke. That's un acceptable.

Purchased from Bulk Reef Supply. I sent an email and phone message to Tunze and just waiting for a reply back.

Yes I bought it when it first came out. Seems like they had an issue with the earlier models. Just after seeing something smoking in my tank I really don't think I can trust it anymore.

Went to add water to my ATO today i noticed a stong smell of burning. I opened up my tank and immediately noticed my Tunze Osmolater 3 was smoking. I've contacted there Customer support just to have someone speaking German and the phone hangs up. Does anyone know how to reach them in the USA? I've attached some pictures to where you can see it burnt up.

this is why i bought up on the 3155 when everyone sold theirs for the latest and “greatest”

sometimes things are tried and true for a reason
(you don’t see kitchenaid changing their mixer!)

meh, tunze has a long history of quality products that do not smoke, if you have the old one, use that.

I would not write off the company as you will just get bigger pieces of garbage from other companies.

I guess you could use gravity top off if you don't want electronics.

I agree! My last Tunze was amazing. I understand things that may break or stop working. But smoking is next level for me.

Sorry to hear that. I run 3 of the 3154's. I just replaced a 3153 as I got it wet and it died after 8 years.
I would not go back to the older version.
I have no worries about Tunze quality but understand your concern.
