Tunze Wave Box

I'm looking to get more of a gentle wave for my LPS tank with a few SPS..Currently I have two vortech mp40 on my peninsula tank. Will a tunze wave box be enough flow or will I still need a power head to get the water moving ?

Is a wave box beneficial now that prop Powerheads can create standing waves? I’ve been wondering if the affect was different.

I am currently using nothing but a Wavebox 6208 in my Cade 1800 in a 100% LPS tank. I ended up taking the 4 Nero 7s out, putting them back in, then taking them back out again lol....they wern't needed. Between the Wavebox and the return every single colony in the tank is moving back and forth, and that is with the wavebox only turned up about 50%. I am not sure if there will be any longterm differences between random flow and gentle back and forth motion as far as coral health but shallow lagoons are often nothing more than a gentle wave.

The wave box is a very gentle wave very unlike powerheads unless of course you put them right in front of the power head empting the wave box. I had one on my 120g lps tank and with returns it was plenty. The wave will pull detritus into the water column to be skimmed out just fine. As for the sps I can not say as they typically like a more "chaotic" stronger flow so may be a little on the low side for them.

i bought one of those tunze wavebox's too. ive been scared to put it in because someone mentioned that kind of wave movement is hard on the structure of the tank and cause the silicone to fail. any thoughts on that?

It can. I ran one for about 6 years on my 120g no issues. But technically any consistent pulsing or heavy flow could effect structural integrity.
