#reefsquad,

Can someone please give me a quick explanation. I'm looking at getting some more fish from Quality Marine. What is the difference when they say

Male Lineatus
Super Male Lineatus
And when people refer to terminal Male?

What are the differences?

Male Lineatus is just that, a male.
Super Male Lineatus is usually the most dominant alpha in a shoal/harem, they typically have the brightest colors.
Terminal Male is the 'end of the line', hence terminal, sex change. All wrasses are female as juveniles. Some then become males (called sub males during the transition as they can still revert to a female, but usually only happens in the wild), and once they are completely done with the transition they become a terminal male because they cannot turn back to female.

A good link here on R2R: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/all-about-reef-safe-wrasses-in-aquaria.259894/

i just got a male fairy wrasse and he is great!

did you use live sand to start?

i think one of the things that is not helping your levels is that you used dry rock and it will take time for the rock to build the bio-export or water cleaning properties. other than that i would feed small quantities every day instead of once a week. are you running a carbon reactor? or GFO? GFO is good to clean water column but you have to be careful as it can strip the water of everything and since you are trying to build your eco system you need it to do its thing to a point. your system is top notch and it will come along but patience is the key especially starting with dry rock and sand(?)

Dry sand, dry rock.

If your referring to my QT2 tank that I was asking regarding nutrient levels. I think it was cause I was over feeding. Nutrient levels in that tank are under control i feel, and i have nice coraline algea growing in there now.

My display I was feeding once a day, I've since upped it to twice a day. 6 fish currently in system. Nitrates and phosphates were reading 0 last few weeks. So I think I have some bacteria(jelly like) growing because levels are at zero?(photo below). Increased feedings I'm hoping will help with this. No gfo on display. I run carbon reactor, uv 24-7. And chateo grows at night, which its double in size in the last few weeks.

Weird thing is, rock in my coral tank, is twice as dark with colouring up than display. I seeded it with coraline from fellow reefer might be why. But even the coraline is being QT just incase. I'm hoping this week I'll sprinkle my display tank with all the pieces.

oh, my bad i misread and thought the problem with levels was the MD... you can always put some rock in the other tank to seed the display..

Thoughts on the photo? Just looks like a bacterial issue with to low of nutrient level?

i dont know what that is but i would assume a standard bacteria starting to populate rock. with not live rock or sand you will also go through a couple of ugly phases as all things bio get going. i would not worry about it now but if your not sure put it in a separate thread and someone will know.

I did put in another thread, nothing useful out of it. I'll wait it out.

Also I've come to realize I've probably nuked some of my Acros. Went from Salinity salt to Kent. Because Salinity was mixing dkh levels at 6.6-6.9 roughly, (which at the time I had thought was low). Did 30-40% water change with new mix. Didnt test dkh first which I should have, and went from about 7 to 9.6 after. Tested Kent salt and was somewhere around 12...ugh. I'm going to assume that spike made my sps piss_d off. But some of my sps is still looking fine, and all Lps look fine. Not sure what happen, but guessing my stupid alk swing as the culprit. Lesson learned, test, test, test. Ive since got in some Redsea coral pro, going to try it, but it's super pricey.

i started with red sea coral pro and did real well with its elevated trace elements but i have switched to neomarine as it was leaving alot of stuff in my 55 gal salt reservoir and it loses some qualities after a bit of time in salt reservoir which made it hard to keep levels stable..... jury is still out if it will work better. i think you will be fine and this is definatly a learn as you go hobby. I have learned one thing (or trying to at least) even in an emergency try not to make drastic fast changes if possible as they usually dont work as expected. the exception to the rule is doing any size water change is ok as a fast fix (except in the case of mixing salt wrong..lol)

@scott11106, did you have to change program for dos pump for auto waterchange. When I prime, pump spins normal. But under automation right one spins wrong direction?

And a new addition in my QT3, waiting on couple more this week, then starting copper.

that is a good looking fish !!
for DOS to work correctly you need to make sure they both are set to add, if you use the auto configure it will set one to add and one to remove. hope this answers your question

Ok so @scott11106 that work, auto water change set up and working perfectly. But couple questions.

-How do you tell what your dosing, if you are dosing two part. Let's say I have dos set up to change 20-30G over a one week period. That sould be good for keeping levels in check? Or if you are dosing, say two part. How do you know what tank is absorbing if your constantly upping levels with water changes?

I've finally seeded coraline algea into my DT. I had some chunks I've been QTing because tank it came out of, I'm sure had ich. Hopefully it takes off soon. Also to note, my Chateo algea is growing like crazy, so I guess that's a good thing

Wow; what an incredible build! I thought I was cool with my one Apex setup :D . Loving seeing the livestock coming into the tank and hope your bacterial-ish issue clears up soon!

Thanks, ya me too. It seems to not be progressing, so hopefully the coraline I just threw in will take off. And my nutrients are up now, so that will help I'm guessing. ;)

Next batch of fish are in QT. Got a amazing male diamond pintail. Also some purple queen anthius, hoping they start eating( take photos later when not so shy)

Couple photos of fish currently in display.

White tail and others hopefully within one week of entering display. Medications are done. Now time to watch them, clean bill of health in their future.

Coral has been ready for a bit to trasfer. But want display absolutely stable on my end, before trasfering.

Finally finished my acclimation box/fish trap, what do you all @ #reefsquad think? Not bad for first time around building box. Small dowel I'll put fishing line through for the pin, that releases the door. Honeslty love working with acrilic now lol. This should work amazing.

I'm taking orders so let me know lol ;). Pretty proud of this addition. And cant what to catch my first fish in it lol.
