Tyree leather turning white in spots

Hi everyone I have a three leather coral that I’ve had for close to a year. It’s done spectacular in my tank until the past month or so. It has pretty much grown as big as it can get in the area I have it. It now touches rock on all sides and sand. It appears like it knows it’s too big and has started producing these white spots that wear away to nothing. Seems like it’s trying to detach part of its rim so it can continue to grow bigger. I thought I read somewhere before that this could be a way for it to propagate but wasn’t sure. I was going to trim the rim back this weekend but was just curious if anyone else had noticed this before. It still opens up all nice and happy during the day but yeah it just seems to be breaking pieces of itself off.

Could you post pics (especially with whites)? I think that’d help us a lot :)

Here’s one I just took lights were off so it’s closed up. It seems like it’s killing off it’s outer rim in a way. I was going to frag it tomorrow and see if that helps. Cut off the white parts. It’s been in the tank for a year and grew from very small. I do ICP tests and nothing has greatly changed according to those.

Yeah that definitely doesn’t look good, looks like some sort of infection that’s been eating away at the tissue. I’d treat it immediately

Will do. I’ll cut away the rim and any white pieces that aren’t in the stalk. Do an iodine dip afterwords too. Make a bunch of little frags just Incase this one doesn’t make it. It’s fine it before a few times but has always gone away on its own.
