Hello everyone,

I am currently battling Ulva/ sea lettuce, I have 2 tangs that does not eat it and 1 urchin and 2 emerald crabs in a 100g tank. It is taking over some of my small frags which I have hydrogen peroxide dipped but it grows to fast and is slowly killing them off.

I was wondering if any one else has had this issue and how to battle it, I have heard that reef flux HD kills it but want to know if this is true and if there are any side effects ?

Thank you !

I meant sea hare

Forget this
If you have a LFS near by and you are chummy with them you might be able to obtain a sea cucumber . They mow thru algae like that in a hurry. They will starve in our reef tanks so see if they will take it back or pass it on to a friend in need.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

In my tank, ulva gets eaten rapidly every time I move it to the display from my refugium. It's a great vacation feeding method for my yellow tang and one spot foxface.

What tangs do you have? What else are they eating?

Fox faces, tangs and gold rim cowries seem to eat it, id recomend you to manually remove as much as you can and then try to get cowries or a fox face to help keep it under control

If you stick it on an algae clip with nori, maybe the tangs will sample it? Then they get a taste for it to pick off the rocks. I did this with caulerpa.

Yes it will eat the Ulva and yes it will nuke your tank. Sounds like you need a different solution

I guess I got an abnormal cuc.

What type is it? Most are either filter feeders, or they move along the sand, eating it at one end and pooping out the other. Getting ulva off rocks or coral frags or large pieces of ulva on the sand would seem unusual to me.

Oops my brain went to lunch yesterday.
Big mistake.
It is a sea hare, not a cucumber. I guess I was thinking about tzatziki and fafael for dinner.
