Underappreciated fish

What’s the nicest underappreciated fish on the market now. I just got a McCosker Wrasse and it is an amazing fish especially for the price. I feel it’s underappreciated because it’s cost-effective. What do you all think?

I would say that Wrasses in general are very underrated fish and often overlooked by newbies in the hobby (who are often Clownfish and Tang crazy). I would take just about any kind of Wrasse over Clowns or Tangs. So much color, personality and activity with them.

I think one of the most underrated fish has to be the sand-sifting gobies. I’ve always had a diamond goby in all of my tanks and he’s the most hardworking fish in the system. Yes they make a mess out of the sand but you should know that ahead of time before getting one of them.

They are pretty entertaining as well. I had one that was clean up crew manager (ie would pick up hermit crabs and place them on the rockwork) and I had another that took exception to any hermit crab that dared enter his burrow. He would fling them as hard as he could at the glass on my tank making a loud pop and scaring the crap out of anyone nearby.

I don’t think they are under appreciated, a lot of people talk about them. There is just a limited number of reef safe ones. The McCosker, six-line, and carpente to name a few.

Depends on one's definition of reef safe. There is a pretty long list that are safe with coral, but may be a risk with snails, small crabs and small shrimp.

Tes to clown but not tangs. Man my scopas is a workhorse. I do love my mccoskers and have a Red-line coming Friday.

I had a sixline wrasse many years ago and he didn't pick on any corals or cuc, and this carpenter's wrasse I have now is a model citizen, to date only displaying his fins when getting swamped by chromis and anthia's, who all take a back when he gets his fins out and dart away from him, but then he puts his fins away and they're all friends again, guess he's just a bit of a personal space type of fish?
