Salty did post a good link to a topic that talked about cameras, I did post some examples of my Canon Powershot on that thread.

If you are planning on using it mostly for your tank, I personally don't see the point of spending mega bucks on it. I love my Canon powershot- and I was actually planning on playing round with it in my tank later on.

Side note, the door opened underwater in my FW tank- I failed to close it properly. Yep, filled up with water. Nothing like a bowl of rice for a week to make it work again! It's a tough little camera!

Following, but with a follow on question: What about using a GoPro? I have a Hero5 Session, which is supposedly waterproof and have been thinking about either: 1) mounting it to a PVC pipe to maneuver it around the aquarium or 2) mounting it to an RC submarine. I don't think the saltwater would do any harm to the camera because I'd have no hesitation diving with it, but I'm wondering if the camera could do any harm to the aquarium or if this is just a bad idea.

I recently sold my Gopro hero because I wasnt impressed with the in tank quality. I think the lighting messes with it. Also I tried using the connect app where I can watch the feed from a tablet while it records but every time the camera went under water the connection breaks. The angle was really wide and you have to get real close for a high quality shot.

I had the Fujifilm waterproof camera to use in the ocean. Took great photos.

I also have the previous model of this camera. Pentax has the exact same camera. I think one company bought the other one out or something.

It has a microscope function and take extremely close pictures (and has diffused leds around the lens to light up the subject). Most underwater cameras have an underwater setting that will filter out the blues.

And @saltyfilmfolks is right about the megapixels. I have a Canon 1D MKII DSLR that is 4MP but I can make posters with the quality pictures it takes (the lens you use makes a huge difference). I actullay do not shoot full quality on most of my cameras (like the 5D MKII) because the files are huge.

Besides being jealous of your camera, Ive been going to Scripps for about a decade and have yet to see a an octopus.:confused::mad:;)

TMC recently released a new Reef cam over here in the uk. Connects to wifi too so you can view it on an app on your phone. No idea if it's any good but I do like the look of it! Maybe something for you to have a look at?

That's the same one coralvue has for 200 bout to be released I seen the tmc it sells for 120 I believe

I ended up getting the Canon powershot D20 on ebay for $80 bucks. Kept thinking that I could find a better one (which im sure there is), but settled on the one that has worked for me in the past.

Haha, don't set your self up for disappointment, I don't have any crazy cool stuff, but for when I do, I will be ready. I will make sure to take some shots as soon as it comes in.

Here are some pics i took tonight, got the Canon d20 for 80 bucks on ebay. Never really messed with settings, so starting to explore the options. These are taken under t5, some blue plus and actinic, other blue plus and purple plus, and some all together.

I almost got this one, but I decided to go with what I know. Here are some pics I took the other night, been learning how to use the light and white balance. The software it also came with is pretty good, basics, kinda photoshop for dummies.

Try to take pictures with more white lights.

I'm using 1 x Aqua blue special T5 tubes and 3 x Coral plus, 2 x blue plus, 1 x purple plus, 1 x actinic.

It still abit blu3-ish. Just do abit of adjustment to reduce e the blue elements will do.

I have a small frag tank, and have a 4 bulb over it aquaticlife. So with the bulb combination I can get ok shots with just the blue plus' turned on, when I use to have my six bulb I was able to take better pics, because of the bulb combo I could adjust with the fixture.
