So what would everyone recommend I do while I wait for my bacteria to show up? I have a thick layer of algae on the sand but haven't touched it yet.

So just an update the algae is still growing but much slower. Once it got fairly thick on the sand bed I scooped most of it out. It does still grow back but not nearly as quickly. The blackout period has claimed 4 of my corals but luckily none of my favorites. I have some bacteria coming tomorrow as well as a filter sock holder because my sump did not have a place for one. Hopefully that will help with removing any algae that I mix up. I am debating if I want to remove all of the sand that I can and then add new live sand but we will cross that bridge if it doesn't clear up.
