I’ve been making some progress on this and thought I’d share.

Tank: UNS 60T
Sump: Fiji 12
Stand: waterbox

I’m still working on the plumbing I’m hoping to have that wrapped up tonight and glued. I can only make 5 gallons of water at a time right now so it’s gonna take a day or two to fill. I’ve got my rocks for KP Aquatics in my bigger bin curing.

Tank is looking good! What are you planning on doing with the tank?

Thanks. Honestly I’m not sure yet, I’ve got a very different ideas. I may give sps a try not really sure yet. I figured I’d just get it cycling and start making some final decisions.

Nice job!

I'm curious why you didn't position the gate valve lower so that you can access it through the stand. Was this intentional to keep it out of sight?
Yes, it was intentional. I just wanted it out of sight. I did a dry fit with it in the cabinet and just didn’t like it as much. I use to service an S600 and the gate was externally mounted. I guess it just seemed normal to me to mount it outside the cabinet.

Got the return plumbed I’m going to glue it up tomorrow. My rocks are still curing. Found what I believe are bobbit worms a few of them were 10 inches or so.

It’s alive but not without problems. Definitely learned a few things the hard way. lol.

One thing I’m not understanding is, I will get the water levels in the overflow box perfect but when I turn the pump off and back on, the water raises and starts going down the emergency overflow and I have to reset it all over again. What am I missing here?

do you have the gate valve closed too much? maybe try a shorter stand pipe and/or no stand pipe on the gate-valved drain. if the water level is getting to the point of going down the emergency overflow it could be a combo of not enough flow on the main drain (valve being closed too much) and standpipe being too high for it to "catch up" to the incoming return pump flow.

I cant tell how you have your weir oriented, but iirc that brand's weir can be flipped upside down to raise or lower the water level in the display. potentially that can help?

Quick update - tank is plugging along great I got all the quarks worked out. I added a simplicity skimmer and love it being dc. I wanted to avoid apps as much as possible on this build. I hate them.

Tanks been cycling for about 2 weeks now and it’s getting really close. Ammonia is very low. I’ll probably add a fish or two in the next week.

Well this has been quite the mission following learning my lesson about the importance of QT with new fish. I got a wrasse with ich and had to go fallow for 75 days. Lost a few fish but everything is on the mend, I think.

Tanks is looking great. Im still planning out my build, but I got that overflow in the other day. How far from the top did you drill your return?

Is that vinyl on the rear or did you paint it?

Thank you. What tank are you running?

I just set the template to make the overflow flush with the top.

It's spray paint. I just mask it off and put like 3 or 4 coats on. I've done it on 3 tanks now and it's been great.

I'm using a rimless 22g long. I have the template for the overflow, so shouldn't be any issues there. I was actually wondering about the height of the return.

Oh, I see. I put mine just overlapping the overflow, if that makes sense. I probably could have gone slightly higher, but it's worked out fine.

Added a new fish to the tank Friday. I was finally able to grab a biota yellow tank from my local petco. They gave me a call as soon as he got in and never even touched their water. He was also 25% off which was a score.

I’m going to keep him in here for a while until he gets big enough to add to my big tank. I’m almost certain they would kill him if I were to put him in there. It’s pretty insane how small they are.

Quick update: I’ve been trying to get this thing dialed in. I made some updates to the sump. I installed a red sea nanomat and a curve 3. I’m still trying to get the nanomat dialed and still breaking in the skimmer. Over all the tanks doing well it’s been really stable over the past few months.

Now I just need to deal with some sponges and I should be cruising after that.

Made some time yesterday to clean my sump and get it organized a little better. I pulled the Uv out as I haven't been running it for the past few weeks. I feel like I have noticed a difference in my torches since I've been running it.
