Hi, I recently ordered a feather duster, and after doing a bunch if research I see that they sometimes abandon their tubes and or lose their heads. Since I have very little experience with these little guys, I am looking for some advice. The feather duster I have appears to have broke in half maybe? The tube is about 6 or 7 inches, I am not sure how big these worms get. The CUC isnt going after it at all. I dont know when to "call it" and pull it out, if it is dead. I have attached a picture of the part that looks busted off. (The "head?").

The tank numbers are low, no ammonia, nitrates are lower, there is a bit of phosphate bleed from some.od the newer rock in the tank I added 2 months ago when I moved everything from an old tank. So this tank is kind of dirty but nothing that is angering anything else.

If the head is open it is alive also if the worm broke the tube it will grow a new one pretty quick and It might retract for a few days at time .
I had one that lasted almost 3 years in the same spot but they will move a little to find their happy spot.

That is kind of what I figured, he isn't in the tube at all as far as I can tell. Just that piece in the picture seemed awfully tiny compared to the tube. I'll leave it alone for now and keep an eye on the CUC to see what happens. Thank you
