I’m seriously considering upgrading from my Waterbox Marine X 90g to a 140g.. trying to learn from others experiences. The plan is to retain all livestock + live rock, buy new substrate & hopefully avoid cycling the new tank.. is that realistic? Anything you guys did to make the transition easier? Anything you’d absolutely avoid in my shoes?

Curious how others have navigated this as I only have room for 1 tank.

PS.. I sold 50% of my live rock that was completely overgrown with GSP. Bought new rock & have been fighting red cyano ever since. Just odd as I hadn’t seen any since my 1st ugly stage when i bought the tank 5 yrs ago. I don’t plan on pulling the trigger until that is resolved.. just throwing that out there for reference.

I had to cycle my tank for about a week to balance everything and added more live rock when I went from a 125 to a 300 gallon

I had to swap out a 75g for a 90g at one point. I used new sand and included all of my rock (and I bought more LIVE rock to add). The tank didn't hiccup. It was a smooth transition.
