Upgrading to a new tank same day?

whether you use all new or all old water does not affect the cycle, its ok to choose either way. if you use all new water, that's the cleanest possible start, so it's the least algae risk start. none of the choice affects the cycling or transfer details/not moving unrinsed sand over is the key to preventing transfer losses in my opinion, per the patterns in the setup example thread. I can't imagine lifting a 125 even with a friend I'd have back aches for a month


Ive had people choose all old water to transport into the new tank solely due to cost.

don't move over the bottom 20% that comes off the top of dirty sand though...don't forget to rinse any sand you put into the new tank like we did here

reef tank water 100% contains transmissible filter bacteria, we just don't need any help. the matured rocks moved from one tank to another simply do not lose any life, that's a harmless thing to do to rocks who in other cases might sit baking in the sun for 12 straight hours on fiji.

The size of the elevator was in fact the limiting factor in terms of size, anything larger than that would’ve required a crane, which to be fair - many reefers around here use for large tanks like mine, I just happened to have a fright elevator which isn’t very common, and it saved me all this headache.
