I am upgrading from a 65 gallon threefold to a t 165 gallon. The 65 has been running for a year and has been doing great. When I originally bought rocks I bought enough for the 165 knowing I was going yo upgrade. I got the rock from an established tank from someone who was moving and taking down their tank. I for what I could in the current tank but the rest has been sitting dry for the last year.

My question is when I start everything am I correct in transferring the currently used live rocks from the tank first and then cycling the dry rocks that were sitting in my garage separately? If so how do you recommend i cycle the rocks? If not what would you do instead?

You can cycle the rocks in a brute trash can like you would a new tank. Place a heater and wave maker in there and add an ammonia source.
