UPS potential STRIKE

I was waiting to reply to this until I could find out more info. I hope you take the time to read my comments.
I work at UPS corporate headquarters. I can guarantee that if anyone was concerned about this, everyone would be talking about it. We would have received a press announcement and it would be top item on our intranet.
First, UPS just signed a master agreement with the Teamsters. It's possible, but extremely unlikely, that a group within the Teamsters will strike outside of the master agreement (known as a wild cat strike)...that's why we have one.
Second, the vote was to authorize a strike, not to strike. It's a negotiating tactic that happens every time a contract is in negotiations. I cannot recall a single contract negotiation what was not coupled with an authorization vote. That's just the way it's done.
Third, there is a complete lack of coverage on this. I spent a while looking around and besides the union's site, I found this info on 2 pro-Union sites and one newspaper. Nobody else is carrying this. And keep in mind this is CACHE, one of the largest hubs in the world.
And yes, given I am a manager (i.e. non-Union), I may be somewhat biased. But seriously, just look at the stock or any major news outlet and see if this is making any news. If a strike was looming, our stock would plummet. It's actually increased over the past week since it tanked from the fuel prices.
Sadly, this is exactly why the unions push this news out...to scare people from doing business with UPS and try to force concessions beyond what is fair.
I hope the folks here are smart enough to ship with the carrier that provides them the best service and value. If it's UPS, great for me. If it's Fed-Ex, that's still great as long as you get what you need. But if you are 'jumping ship' because someone posts an article from a pro-Union site...well, that's your choice but you are only hurting yourself.

and how you would think a company like ours will react when you see some thing like that UPS is our MAJOR courier we use to fill up a 20 footer trailer/container everyday how can we be asure that a strike will not happen or can the main office can give us an assurence we also have responsibility to our costumer that thier order arrive on time i hope you understand being a Manager in UPS

I wont be jumping ship unless this strike was to happen and honestly I've had just as much problem with fedx shipping corals as UPS so unless I get a better offer somday sticking with UPS.

As we are too UPS trailer is still park at the dock every morning and being loaded as i post
I have problems with FedEx too, but thats my preferred carrier. I had about the same success rate with UPS, but FedEx was on time more often, not by much, but enough I switched to just using FedEx unless requested other.
I just talked to my buddy who works for UPS. This is what he said and where he said to look for info...
The UPS that is in question, is NOT the brown trucks that you see locally and it is NOT overnight/2day/ground. It is UPS FREIGHT. FREIGHT has nothing to do with you or any of us unless we're shipping like a tractor trailer load of stuff from one business to another. UPS Frieght is actually a seperate umbrella company.
If something was going on with UPS, it would show up on their stock info pages or on the Teamsters website.
Here is the Local 705 Teamsters website where it talks about UPS Frieght.
If that 28 foot trailer is going to 30 different people, then thats a different trucking company, thats actual UPS, if its going to another business, then its Freight. UPS Freight bought out Overnite Express Freight, and that is the actual people who may strike, but I heard they already have the contract signed.

Our shipment goes direct to buisneses (dive shop) we do not ship direct to end user its normal ground not unless requested.
And its good to know that theres a contract signed
Is the truck that shows up to pick up the trailer a UPS or another companies truck such as OverNite Express... Its a brown or white with the UPS logo on it, then its not part of the Freight company thats having the problem. If its normal UPS ground, thats not part of the problem either. ONLY UPS Freight, not Ground/2day/Overnight, those 3 will not be effected by it. My buddy is a truck driver for UPS that hauls 2nd Day Air (one of those tandem trailer trucks 2x28 feet containers).
