I have a 14 gallon biocube the temperature has gotten all the way to 84. I bought a fan that i pointed towards the open food shute. This does drop the temperature down to 74. Is this the best way i can cool it off? I could buy a Inkbird temp controller and have the fan hooked up to tun off when it hits 74 and turn on at 76 then keep my heater to trun on at 72 as a back up to keep temperature all in the same 4degrees.

Place fan on a dual timer so it runs two 4 hour cycles ( 10a-2p and 5p-9p)

How cold does your tank get with no heater? I'm confused as to whether you need a heater or chiller here. If you have a heater and it's heating your tank to 84, then get a new heater or an inkbird as you suggested.

Edit - Is this temp swings from the light and/or ambient room temp?

I have a cobalt 75watt its set to 74 and as far as i know never turns on. It does show the blinking light at 82 or 84 whatever that temp is at the time. I could take the heater to off and see what happens

That sounds like a solid plan. I have a fan hooked into my Apex, so it turns on when the tank gets to a certain temp.

I work nights so i am going to unplug the heater and see what temp it gets to in the aquarium over the next 10hrs. If it hits a point and stops i may just do that. If not and still hits 82+ i will set up the fan to a temp probe and go with my original plan and hope that works well enough for coral in the future. If later on i have to i can add a chiller just would prefer not to

The person i purchased from changed the lights out to 1 3003 and 2 3001. Only on from 10am-8pm

Depending on your ambient room temp you may not need the heater even if it’s not coming on I would take it out for now. The lights in the 14gal create heat on their own.
Try running only the blue lights for a few hours during your lights on period. Use the fan cycle(4 hrs 2x a day) as suggested too.

So i unplugged the heater and has reached into the 80s again. The lights are all hooked into 1 outlet with no sort of controller unfortunately. I am going to get that inkbird and try and keep it all within 2 degrees! Hopefully it works out

Update for those who care. Unpullged heater still reached into the 80s unfortunately. I am ordering the inkbird. This will have the fans hooked up to it keeping temp between 74-76 degrees. Heater will be set to 72 just in case of inkbird failure.

Hey, I live in Las Vegas also. If you need help with anything you can contact me at [email protected], I have lots of spare parts. I have an Inkbird never used, never needed it. May give you a better deal.

Crisis avoided! I got the inkbird set the fan and the heater up to it and everything has been going great. Set to 25c fan turns on at 25.4 heater turns on at 24.7. Keeping it perfectly in line.
