Lol ahhh well you know from my experience just in watching Wiley Coyote he had an acme demo hammer and he rode it also. If I remember correctly now, he has way more experience in demolition and ahhh it didn’t work out so well for the coyote. I’m not sure what he is doing wrong but sure looks like it hurts lol.

Lol what is a tds meter and I have ordered a five stage rodi from my lfs. Of course awww I’ll have to have a plumber install it, and in my garage as well. At least if the check valves fail my garage is floor is kinda slanted. So the water will at least run down out of the garage :).

I think I will hold off on getting any new fish, after doing the math lol probably not the best idea. As far as qt when I get fish, I have always put them in a qt. I also always dip the corals as well.

After fragging the sps colony from one huge one to several small ones, so far so good. The polps are still out let’s hope the tissue loss stops. I made ten so plenty of chances for just one to survive lol, it did take me four years to get it a nice large colony.

Lol yes I was already planning an rodi for the new 425, now I just have to go get some nice 50 gallon garbage cans.

Of course it will be a little time before I can have it up
And running. I’d prefer not to do it well umm twice. But looking how my living room wall that separates it from the garage, looks like one could put a pipe that attaches on both ends. At least then it’s not a permant thing if I decide to move. I was thinking if they have valves on either side I would have more control and the ability to remove them if they get clogged. Granted a solid pipe from point a to point b is always the best, but it’s close to 25 feet to 35 feet from where the sump could sit in the garage, and link into both tanks. Now I have to do the math and see how much force I’ll need to push water that far and calculate out the head pressure at the return lines. I may have to re think using the current dc return pumps and go for something substantial larger, even though I had planned on using four of them. Two would be dedicated to each tank which they are 3100 gph, so a total of 6200 per tank on just return lines. I’m Using four 2100 gph on my 240 which is 8,400 gph plus 6200 which is 14,600 gph by 240 plus 40 which is 280 water volume minus 60 roughly for displacement so 220 total gallons to think high. Which that comes to 66 times the flow in a mixed tank in my 240.

Now for my 425 I plan on using a total of 6 of the 2100 which is going to be 12,600 plus the 6200 comes to 18,800 plus if I use the new gyro which is 3000 gph comes to 21,800 gallons per hour by 425 plus 100 sump so 525 minus displacement of est 75-80 shooting high so 445 water volume should give me a flow of 48.98 or est to 49 flow rate which if I’m runnnng mixed should be a min of 50. So either larger return pumps or add a secondary gyro to the back side and boost it to 24,800 by 445 comes to 55 times the size flow rate. Still seems awfully low for that size of tank. It was mentioned to me to run a booster in the middle of the line. So as to once the pipes reach mid point, they would enter into a new pump and continue but would increase pressure and possibly flow. (Still chewing on that one though, having something break lol in the middle of my living room would kinda be bad. I will run the pipes, or thought of running them through the main garage wall, through insulated pipes outside of the house. Then route back inside to a junction that would split for both tank. But that also seems like a huge hassle and disaster just waiting to happen. Since Having a basement here in Idaho seems to be unheard of, it’s the garage, or under the tank, which I’m trying to make them super quiet as in you don’t know they are there. My loudest item sadly is just the water flowing through the pipes and into the sump. Hmmmm

It takes very little energy to push water sideways. As long as you don't have a large change in height your pump loses will be minimal. When is the last time you needed a pump to get rain water to flow down your street to a drain? o_O

Well!!!!!!

What you loose in a pipe is frictional loss. Best to use the largest diameter pipe you can fit....less loss. As an example, using a MAG 9, here's the headloss of 1 foot versus 20 feet 0f pipe....all horizontal....in gallons per hour (GPH):

Use a reef headloss calculator to put you in the ballpark for the flow rates you wish to achieve. :D

Sure hope the kids didn’t dump some bubble bath in there. Well the protein skimmer is going crazy, so he is off for the night:)

Whoa, that is crazy? Did you add anything recently (I do not recall) like Chemiclean or something? I sure hope you were joking about the Bubble Bath.

Nope I didn’t add anything at all or change the skimmer adjustment or water level. I only added clean filter socks, (just washed in r/o water, and they were in for a few days), I then swapped out my carbon pad that goes between my last baffle in my sump, for a new one. It was rinsed before I put it in. Then just came home and it was going bubbalicous on me. I even raised the skimmer up and placed it on the lid. I cleaned the skimmer the day before, just with hot water and my normal items that I use. The skimmer is wide open and it just a big bubble machine. Turned it off, for awhile and still having issues. I have been having some small cyano break outs and not sure why. Water is testing awesome, and I have changed the wave maker flows on top for the sps. Im at a total loss. Tank water is super clear just not sure why it’s being so dramatic.

Hmmm I am no expert, but it seems strange. If something big, like an anemone died maybe (like caught in a powerhead), but you would notice something missing. Did you test for Ammonia? Could something have spawned?

I didn’t test for ammonia or nitrite, but no missing fish or anemonies or any corals. The tank is happy just not the skimmer. In the past when this has happened I took the filter socks off and it went away. Not sure why they make it go crazy but will remove them in the morning. Some days my tank is just like a teenager, lol drama drama drama for no reason. Yet, still absolutely adore it and it will calm down, that’s also one thing I’m not overly found of about the eshopps s300 skimmer. It’s extremely picking and sensitive, but quiet. It’s one thing that I miss about my old reed dynamics skimmer. That thing would never change, but it was as loud as a fighter jet taking off.

As crazy as it sounds, my skimmer did the exact same thing tonight. I never have a problem with it but sure enough, it was overflowing and bubbles running everywhere.

It took around an hour of running with the skimmer dialed way back and skimming wet to get it running close to right again.

WOW My Skim Collection Bucket was full and almost over flowed today ( Its a 5 gal bucket) Need to check it more often..

Anyway a skimmer can over flow like that due to mechanical restrictions From a Crab, snail or algae getting inside the impeller. When this happens to me which is rear luckily. I will raise an lower the skimmer to flush the pump and venturi out. This usually solves it. Another Quick fix is Disconnecting the Air hose from baffle (depending on your skimmer type) and submerging it into the sump allowing nothing but water to flow thru....

Or Go out to the WORK VAN Get a Framing Hammer and Boink it a Few Hard wacks on the Knogon ..(MY FAV PROBLEM SOLVING TOOL) Ohh wait this might be how Bonnie keeps me in check.. ooops Wrong Over FLOW ..

Lol I think I found the problem, it didn’t like my filter socks. As soon as I removed them it calmed down and went back to normal even though still raised up. It was fine for a few days then just bubbles everywhere. Tested my water today and it’s right where it needs to be. Not sure how long I can go with out the skimmer on, but will try again tomorrow. Worse case, I’ll hook up a canister filter innhe process and run some carbon. I have though heard mixed reviews on that.

Also lol @Erica-Renee Im curious if it’s the same one that is used in the movie Mr Maguriums wonderful emporium? Where it’s a a little squeaky purple hammer than makes noise when it makes contact with other items. :)
