saw this spot on my anthias this morning. had it for about a week now. the other 2 look completely fine and acting normal. this ones been hiding pretty often for a day now and has been eating normally. it does look like its fin is also damaged on the same side as the spot. damage or uronema? Thanks!

Yes that would be uronema unfortunately. I usually put them down. Small container with clove works really well.

But just to play it safe, see if you can get pictures under bright white lights. Uronema at one point will wreck the fish’s skin/scales and you will only see exposed flesh.

do you think this will spread to my other fish even if this one is taken out

It should not. But to get the fish moved. And again just to make sure. Run bright white lights mode and get another picture if you can. 🤙🏾

It does look like Uronema. Internal Uronema really isn’t treatable, once you see the external lesions, the internal damage has already been done. It isn’t super contagious, but other anthias you acquired at the same time could also be harboring their own infections. Fish seem to acquire these infections during shipping. It is almost always only seen in newly acquired fish.

Here is an article I wrote on this:

Thanks so much. I tried removing it to no success. The other anthias are doing just fine right now and eating great. If I can’t get it out before it dies what are the chances it spreads to my other fish? I have a maroon clown 2 more anthias tailspot blenny cherub angelfish and 2 chromis

It won’t spread - Uronema can be isolated from about 75% of established marine tanks. Your other anthias, if from the same group, may already be carrying it though.
