Hi all

My refugium doesn't perform well at all. I have an ok flowrate through it but my cheap USB grow light for plants just isn't cutting it. I have a spare 90w programmable reef light spare so I have installed it to see if I can get any better results. It has white, purple and blue leds which are all individually programmable. What ratio of white:blue: purple am I best shooting for for growing chaeto? Thanks

If you can get to a red spectrum with that current light, then you might be in a good range. Grow Lights will favor red spectrum like High Pressure Sodium bulbs (HPS).

I just have white, blue and purple but white light contains a lot of the spectrum right? So maybe white heavy? Thanks

I put viparspectra BB lights over my fuge and stuff grows great. They do have a few colored LEDs though. I run both channels 80%. 2 of them over a 29 gallon tank is a lot of watts though.

Awesome, Looks good! I'll shoot for even distribution of blues and whites and will see how I get on .

I pitch a large mixing bowl of macro every 5 days. I also add iron (Brightwell Ferrion) to my system once a week.

Really! Thats a crazy amount. I have barely filled a mixing bowl in 5 months. Useless light! I've spent all my time tweaking my system in other areas, time to focus on the fuge! Good to see you get great results with a regular light.
