Hello! My tank is relatively new (about 1.5 months old) and am wondering if it is too soon to use Chemi-Pure Elite. I've had a huge amount of success in the past, and I love the way chemi-pure makes your water look 'wetter'. Should I give my tank some time to develop the beneficial bacteria and microfauna? Or am I OK to add my chemi-pure.

Thanks!

Are you trying to bring down your Phosphates? If not I wouldn't add it. I added it to mine about 2 months in and everything bottomed out and Dino's came right in.

I had a feeling I would get this response :)

I honestly love how it makes your water look, which is why I wanted to use it. My tank is currently having a massive diatom bloom, so maybe timing is not right to utlize chemi-pure. I believe the diatom bloom is because the tanks new.

I don't know where my phosphates are. I decided to stop testing and just let my tank develop. I think I know my answer... Don't use the chemi-pure quite yet to avoid nutrient drop out.

I would not use the elite if you do not know the phosphate. There’s a risk of driving phosphate too low. Regular Chemipure, or just GAC, will be good at reducing organics in the water.

Thanks Randy!

It just dawned on me that I don't have a CUC yet. I'll put the chemi-pure back on the shelf, and see if my water quality will increase with an added CUC today.
