I copper-safe dosed a 75 gallon and 60 g breeder with live sand and live rock for over 30 days at 2.25-2.5 utilizing a Hannah copper monitor after 2 angelfish and 2 butterfly fish died from velvet (Rapid breathing, lost appetite, and innumerable amounts of golden dust). Live rock is stacked to top of both tanks (Lots of rock—paid >$1,200 for all this rock).
I’m consolidating 4 tanks into a 300 gallon 8’ tank, not including sump. Can I use the live rock that was copper-dosed in new tank. I don’t plan on having coral, anemones or inverts in 300 g FOWLR. Is there still a risk of transferring velvet into new tank by using that rock? I’ll use new sand. Is there any reason I shouldn’t use old live rock that’s been in tanks for 2 years? I do have a zebra eel going into new tank and possibly a lion fish. I don’t want copper-sensitive fish to get hurt.
I’m still keeping a separate tank for coral.
