Is it ok to use silica sand with Derasa clams? I have 2 in a QT tank for the next 6 weeks, and right now it is bare bottoms. I have some black aquarium sand that I was thinking of adding to the tank to help support the clams.

Any issues doing this or is there a better idea?

Thanks,

Sand is not needed, but if you want the sand do you can easily direct the direction the clam facing, then sand is fine. Black sand is a little strange. It may decrease the amount of light in the aquarium. This is unlikely to be of significant since it is reflected light anyway.
You can also use a ring of PVC which is what most people use.
