UV driving my Tunze ATO crazy!

Hey everyone, hope you’re all doing well! I recently installed the latest version of the Tunze ATO along with a 57W UV sterilizer. Ever since the install, the ATO pump has been going crazy—constantly turning on and off.





I spoke with Roger at Tunze, and he mentioned the UV ballast is likely interfering with the ATO due to frequency issues. He recommended keeping the cords completely separated, with none touching, and spacing the units as far apart as possible.





Has anyone else run into this problem or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Not experienced this.

However, have you tried removing the UV power supply and see if the ATO acts normal? At least then you'd know for sure this is whats interfering with it.

yes it only happens with the uV on

Do your cables overlap, and if so is there anyway to isolate them?

Are they both plugged into the same power strip? If so, what kind is it and can you move them a bit further apart on the strip.

There is a lot of forum discussion on this topic; some here, some elsewhere!

Primarily due to electrical current leak being readable via digital multimeter in many marine aquariums…

The concensus seems to be isolating your cords further apart from one-another, and not making loops in 120v cords!

Also; try looking up “EMI shielding” … your tunze low voltage signal wire could realistically be EMI shielded!

Yes to all of this! How would you isolate them?

If possible, use a different wall outlet and power strip. If not possible, just do your best to route the power cords so they are not touching. I use Velcro zip ties and wire hangers similar to these:
