UV Sterilizer Positioning

Good morning. I ordered a UV Sterilizer on BRS and I was reading the Manual online. I noticed in all the pictures in the Manual that they have the barbs positioned facing up. Does it matter if they are facing outward, or down? To make routing the hoses easier? Just wondering. Appreciate any insight.

I dont mean so much vertical or horizontal, but which way the barbs are facing. If I mount it horizontal, does it matter if the hose barbs are facing down instead of up?

how are you running you uv... i hooked mine up last night put pvc on return with 2 t fitting later realizing i would not get adequate low rate because pressure could be coming in from both side of uv.. i had to cut it out and now im goin to run it off return straight into tank with another lock line

In the horizontal position, the barbs has to face up to fill up the tube for the UV is work properly. When the barbs are faced down, the water will drain and the tube will not be able to be filled.
In the vertical position, as long as you have the input at the bottom and the output at the top, the output barb can be faced down. This is how mine is positioned.

As others have said, always mount say that it is full of water, even when the pumps shut off. If you have the ability, program your controller to shut the UV light off when the pumps are shut off. It can get HOT inside the tube when the bulb is on and the water isn't

Yup. Must be pointed up.

Make sure to mount it directly ABOVE your power outlets. LOL. Sorry man, I had too.

ok guys I have been reading that it best to bypass the simp and just filter the DT for best results. but the plumbing would be a mess that way. what is everyone thoughts.

That is best practice, but not always feasible. If you can swing it, then do it. If you're not confident in your plumbing tetris, just do your best. Sterilizing any of the water that goes back into the DT is better than none of it.

The barbs must be pointed up so the air can escape if the unit is mounted horizontal.

I have mine mounted on the top of my cabinet with a separate pump attached to it so I can adjust the flow.

Ok I'm having an issue with pluming the uv and where to put it on the return line can any one show me pictures on how they plumber the uv

Dont know if this will help. Comes in to UV on left, goes out to my sump on the right. 120 watts on that bad boy.

I prefer to run UV with a separate pump. No need to add more back pressure on the return pump.

I dont know if i woukd put much stock in that. After all... its all the same water! It is not like there are going to be bacteria, microbes, whatever, that are in your DT but not your sump...

that is what I was thinking to . but some ppl say its so? ;Bookworm

So running it on the the return line with a t and then back onto the return did not work because I was getting pressure from both ends
