Probably been asked a thousand times before but what are people's thoughts on running uv's, have them on 24 hours a day or for only part of a day on a timer? If the later for how many hours?

My preference is to not run a UV at all.

I prefer the bacteria in the water in my aquarium to remain alive until they are either skimmed out or eaten by something.

In fact, one of the main reasons I dose vinegar is to drive the growth of bacteria that then become food for filters feeders such as sponges. :)
